Know
What You Want to Get What You Want
by bernie schmidt
Ever
get a sense of dissatisfaction around what you have
or where you are but can't put your finger on why
you feel that way? Do you compare yourself to others
or wish you had more of what they had - money, free
time, greater sense of happiness?
Many
people spend their lives looking at the success
of other people living out dreams while putting
up with their lot in life - just look at the popularity
of celebrity magazines and TV shows. In many cases
people have opted to watch others get what they
want and don't spend enough time thinking about
their own personal dream, or even coming up with
a personal dream.
No
matter where you are in your life right now, the
most important thing you could do for yourself is
really imagine how you would like your life to be,
complete with imagery and feelings. VISUALIZING
your desired life is the first step to getting closer
to what you want.
Visualization
is like a waking dream and you're the director,
producer and STAR of the dream. You use your imagination
to really detail what it is you want - for example,
it's not enough to say "I want a new car". You need
to be really specific, such as:
"I'm
rolling along in my sleek, new silver 2-door Mercedes
Roadster - It's a beautiful sunny day and I'm
driving down the highway with the top down, feeling
the sun on my face and the wind in my hair. The
rich leather seat is so comfortable as I look
at the scenery flowing by with the sounds of my
favorite CD pumping out of this fabulous sound
system and I feel just great driving this car
of mine".
Note
the imagery and how the visualization engages your
senses (see the car color, feel of seat and wind,
hear the music), how you feel in your car (great)
and that the visualization is happening in the present,
RIGHT NOW.
Making
you dream feel as if you've already achieved it
has HIGH EMOTIONAL IMPACT not only consciously,
but unconsciously as well. It's very motivating!
A
good exercise is as follows: Get comfortable in
your chair, close your eyes and count to ten, breathing
slowly, in and out. Relax. Then, open your eyes
and start writing down your ideal life. Make it
rich in detail. Write without concern for the current
pressures in your life - This is your DREAM LIFE
- have fun with it and go with the flow. You may
do this exercise several times as you tune the language,
imagery and feelings so that the dream is truly
yours.
