Some info on El Paso and area:

• El Paso is the fourth-largest city in Texas, the biggest border city (and the 22nd-largest city of any kind) in America
• 700,000 people live in El Paso, and another 1.4 million live in the border city of Juarez.

The Rio Grande is the natural border between El Paso and Juarez, reinforced by fence and barb wire:

I take a cab to a local bike store to get a cardboard shipping box. After spending seven days in the saddle, my legs still want to move, so I take an extended walk off to the El Paso Museum of Art and in the contmeporary art gallery I meet up with the "Statue of Liberty Barfly", a creation by local El Paso artist Luis Jiminez who's main working medium is fibreglass.
