OK, this was my most intense ride. My birthday present to myself was to pedal a solo 600 miles in six days from Oklahoma City to Corpus Christi on the Gulf of Mexico, and here is how it rolled out:

How was traffic on your trip from San Diego to the Deluxe hotel and why did you choose that route?

Outside of the first couple of miles of boulevard leaving San Diego, the highway was empty.
Re: route selection – like my other bike trips through the US, I chose highways that were as close to the Mexican border as possible.
While some might see that as dangerous, the highways are heavily patrolled – in fact, I’d say that most of the traffic was from the Patrol’s green & white SUVs.
I’d wave to all of them – I’m sure I was part of their radio talk – this fool with a bright yellow jersey pedalling solo through the desert.
